A joke about drowning an ‘ugly’ disabled boy might have been distasteful — but it must remain legal in a free society, Ward’s lawyer argued in court

had I known being disabled and getting made fun of was merit for that kind of payout, I would have bought a wheel chair in high school and really hammed it up

So much for freedom of speech in Canada. This is a disturbing precedence and a nail in the the coffin. When the law decides what you can and can't say, you ask, what else can I say? Before you know it you're in jail for a thought crime. No such thing as hate speech only free speech

IF his jokes were TARGETING Patriots or Patriotism in Canada, there would have NEVER been a Tribunal!! CENSORSHIP in Canada has become EXACTLY like CHINA or IRAN or SAUDI ARABIA!! KEEPING Canadians under GOVERNMENT ISLAMIC LAW!! FIGHT BACK NOW OR FOREVER LIVE ON YOUR KNEES!!!!!!

Apologize, pay the fine if you have and done with it!! I love HR tribunal

Year it defenately is by calling out a person

So demeaning comments are funny? Laughing at others misfortunes is considered comedy? Pay up and smarten up, you're old enough to know the difference.

Wow!!!!!!

From a comedian being banded from a club cause he has dreadlocks to a comedian telling a joke, god help us

You call Mike Ward a comedian, but he's not even remotely funny. I'm actually offended over that.

Nice to see Quebec's HR tribunal is the same kangaroo court Ontario's HR tribunal is.

Is free speech (not yelling fire in a crowded theatre) dead?! Where is the line re: defamation?

We have to get rid of these kangaroo courts.

He may be a real douche bag of a comedian, but he shouldn’t be fined.

Those idiots have individuals attacking me and they take those videos and create jokes out it. They have the neigbour recording my ins and outs, organizing following and even when I go out to clean the snow, those idiots create jokes about everything I do, make money out. Idiots.

This is liberalism, you can't even joke!

Slippery slippery slope.

Too much attention for something all about censorship! I’m sure the kid had to deal with a lot worse going through school. What a “joke!” Bad choice? Maybe. Illegal? Not even close!

So I guess he's not laughing now...

This is terrible, we need to change this country discrimination laws. Suing over a joke?

Not a good precedent. 42k is way too much for a joke. This could kill comedy right there.

... The boy is not disable... He's just ugly.

Mocking an actual individual? A child? A disabled child? Because of their disability? For years? I hate censorship but I’m OK with this

“The tribunal ordered Ward to pay $35,000 in moral and punitive damages ...” WTF?

I don't find what he said funny at all. I think its just mean. If you are going to name someone and make jokes about their disability thats discrimination.

That isn't dark humor. That's just mean. He traumatized this poor boy. He should be ashamed of himself and pay damages.

MikeWardca T'es juste un trou cul! 👌👈

JonathanPieNews this is reprehensible

It was a disgusting speech, not funny at all, just demeaning to the young man

He wasn’t even wishing the kid ill will😑
