The lead Nulane prosecutor, Peter Serunye, has hit back at defence claims that the National Prosecuting Authority's first state capture trial is"dead" – and insists the State remains confident it can get convictions in the fraud and money-laundering case. "We want to state that, during the course of this trial, there has been much criticism, inside court and outside court, and the State will not enter into the fray. We trust that the legal process will take its course," Serunye told the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein on Friday.
He, however, expressed his unhappiness at defence counsel Kenny Oldwadge's declaration, made during argument, that Nulane representative Dinesh Patel should be acquitted of the charges against him because of a lack of evidence, that"the State's case is dead and we are all here for the funeral procession".Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism. Peter should be sent to traffic court after this
Great if its not really hoping for some accountability in SA for politicians or they will continue to act with impunity...I don't think we can rely on their conscience..
The prosecution always speak of a conviction even where there's no evidence to secure a conviction.
We can only hope
