In Washington state, it may become legal to bury your family members in your own backyard.

would change Washington state’s current law, which requires all burials to be conducted by registered cemetery corporations.

“The idea for this bill came from several groups, including some tribal members, living in my district,” said Walsh. “It means a great deal to them and others across the state that would like to have better options when it comes to private property family burials. In the spirit of the West and of property rights, I believe this is a good and important bill.”

Walsh said the bill would allow the long-held tradition in the West of being buried on land that your family owns, which was commonplace in the early years of Washington state, to continue. Under the measure, property owners would be able to declare land they own a “family burial ground.” Regulations in the bill would require property owners to register the final resting place of their family members. The bill now heads to the Senate after it was unanimously passed in the House.

So only for the ultra-rich who can still afford to buy a home here.

Would that imply that homesteads would become reintroduced? People having land rights? That's potentially amazing, as long as we remember who should have first dibs on the land when it is actually for sale.

When did they make it illegal?

I wonder if that is what happened to Jimmie Hoffa

The democrats are already stinking the place up so a few dead won’t make much difference.

Why? 🤦‍♀️

What happens when you sell the property?

define 'your' ?

For godsakes not on rental property!

Will they have to die first?

Pack 'em out when you move...

And if a future owner doesn’t want that tombstone there anymore? Off to the dump! Not fair to the buried person. Landowners might own their land now but long term they’re only temp caretakers, eventually it’ll be someone else’s. (Bury w/o tombstone!)

That’s good. Most family members are already.

I see problems with this, long term, when it comes to history recording and work projects. Although in the bill, property ownership change will still cause conflicts. I wonder what's the real reason behind the proposal? Olympia, you didn't think it through. Very suspicious!

If you own the land why shouldn’t it be if I work my life away for my own piece of dirt I want to be laid to rest on it

That’s what happens when you let Liberals run your state

How about when ya go to sell your property? That will be weird.

Been doing this for years.

I hope you’re required to disclose this information before selling your property.

Cool. I checked not against my HOA rules either. :)

Kind of creepy. Is this in preparation for massive incoming deaths?

That is gross. Our state legislature is so far out in the boon docks that even the alligators stay away from them.

What’s next…home cremation?

PLEASE FOCUS ON THE HOMELESS PROBLEM

It used to be that way in the early days.

Who pays to have them moved when the property is sold? Can property then be developed by a future owner, or will gravesites stop this from happening? Don't want a duplex in your neighborhood? Everyone bury somebody in your backyard.
