The visit, which was requested by defense attorney Dick Harpootlian, was one of the final procedures in theJudge Clifton Newman agreed to allow for a site visit earlier this week, despite opposition to the move from prosecutors, who argued the vacant property looks different than it did in 2021, with taller trees and thicker greenery that has grown in since Murdaugh’s wife and son were found dead,Prosecutors in the trial are seeking a sentence of life in prison without parole, alleging Murdaugh...

Murdaugh has pleaded not guilty and denied killing his wife and son, though he had previously admitted to stealing money from his law firm and his clients, as well as scheming to hire an assassin to kill him so his other son, Buster, can receive a $10 million life insurance payout after his death. If found guilty, Murdaugh faces a minimum of 20 years in prison if he’s convicted on two counts of first-degree murder.In his closing argument on Wednesday, prosecutor Creighton Waters argued Murdaugh committed the murders amid a “gathering storm” in his life, fearing he would “lose his career, lose his law license and face consequences like he’s never seen.”by prosecutors of lying in his initial testimony about his whereabouts on the night his wife and son were killed.
