Toronto’s police chief is standing by the decision to appoint an officer cleared after killing two black men and accused in court of beating a third in the 1990s.

in the 1990s, even as a city councillor is asking questions about the hiring decision.said Supt. Rick Shank was investigated decades ago by police watchdogs.professional standards unit“He was exonerated and cleared. And he has been an exemplary police officer serving our public, keeping our city safe,” Demkiw said.to open up the records on the decision to promote Demkiw over any other qualified candidate without Shank's history.

Shank was hired two years ago, and Demkiw was on the panel that recommended his promotion to the Toronto Police Services Board, records show. Lawyer Peter Rosenthal represented Coley’s family at the inquest in 1995. Reached this week by CTV NewsToronto, Rosenthal said he had concerns about Shank’s new position.

A civil lawsuit alleged that Shank and his partner took Reece to a cemetery on the way to the police station and beat him; a video shows an unconscious Reece being pulled from the police car and a photo from one court proceeding shows Shank holding up bloody knuckles.

WOW TPS!!! So there was no other cop that could be promoted? So much for wanting the black community to trust you.

People who seek out these positions almost always should never be in them.

The article did say cleared. Right?

That just means that he honestly stands with all the racist police regime. Thank you for letting us know that you are the KKK in uniform.

Would it be a problem if the headline read two white men? Or two Asian men? How about just two men !

Must have skills to get promoted at the TorontoPolice Experience Murdering Blacks

Good to know we're being 'served and protected' by a murderer who also likes to assault non-white people.

Toronto Police is trained to stand by the cops no matter what, even if it's obvious that they are in the wrong & the cop in question is a racist, uses excessive force, discriminates and or murders. TPSMyronDemkiw

Just like when the cops stood by the monster PC Dusan Dan Pravica back in 2000 when he used excessive force on a mentally ill man, then in 2003 tased Sammy Yatim who was already dead & lied about why he tasered him & lied in his memo book. TPSMyronDemkiw

Of course TPSMyronDemkiw stands by the monster Superintendent Office Rick Shank, they're all cut from the same corrupt cloth with the likes of fordnation JohnTory

The US is just a short drive away if ppl want to live in a country where cops kill with impunity. No need to ruin Canada.

Nice list of the most important skills of a fine police officer.

If cleared then why is it an issue

Yes, that's right . He was investigated and cleared decades ago. You and the social justice warrior mob out there don't get to keep trying to re-litigate things and ignore court findings just because you didn't like the results. Get over it. He earned the promotion.

Hire more. rid the streets of conservative nazis.

Who cares what the race was.. stop starting trouble

So far all the media has done is said he killed two black men but they haven't provided any context.... most likely because it doesn't allow them to push their narrative GarbageMedia

Good!

promote more. protect our citizens from conservative terror programs

So without all the facts it’s hard to pass judgments but let’s accept reality, in some cases a cop killing a black man may be justified, just like a cop killing a white man may be justified!

Boo hoo, evidence evidence evidence

Tahst very bad; he shouldn't be in the force.

Berry berry chilly don't lay off da 7-11 coffee & snacks

More like “exonerated & cleared” by the blue wall of silence, ahem 😉🧐

That’s like inviting an arsonist to put out a fire. Head of professional standards indeed! How did this new police chief ever get his job? He lacks good judgment.

Wow! Of course… why are we surprised? Dirty cops printing and defending dirty cops! RacismInPlainSight TorontoPolice Toronto

Great job Chief! Don’t be pressured by gaslighting fake news CTV

Shocker.

TorontoPolice run and operated by murderers. This is Taxpayer money. I do not fund criminals or criminal activities. Defundthepolice

Cleared means innocent of the charges? Why does anyone have a problem with this? If anything they deserve to be rewarded for their brave actions so this makes perfect sense

Congrats. You were innocent. Hopefully more promotions are in your future.

If he was non-white This dude will be like You’re right But since dude is white it’s all right

Coward!!

Dude is part of the KKK

It seems he was never convicted of a crime. Nothing to see here, folks.

Well done chief…

davidpugliese Never bend to the mob…ChiefTanner

Murderer = no problem

I stand with Ukraine!

“He was exonerated and cleared. And he has been an exemplary police officer serving our public, keeping our city safe,”

they need more men like this to protect ontario citizens.

Toronto does not have a BLM exception policy in the police force. All criminals are treated equal.

This person should never have been considered and promoted to the role.
