One of three people fighting eviction notices they received from the local Tim Horton’s franchisee in Souris, P.E.I., says the company has no legal grounds to make tenants leave their apartment building.

DP Murphy's lawyer, Mark Doucet, said the company would not provide comment for this story.

He cited a provision of the Rental of Residential Property Act that requires confidentiality in hearings over rental increases. However, the same provision is not included in the legislation relating to eviction proceedings. "It kind of illustrates the huge power imbalance between landlords and tenants in this province," Waters said, adding it can be intimidating for tenants to go up against landlords who have "a lawyer representing them, and a landlord that the tenants know has deep pockets."- Rosalind Waters, P.E.I. DP Murphy Inc owns many hotel properties. Rather than evicting seniors, let them house their workforce at one of their properties.

TFWs are used by employers and landlords to lower wages for Canadian workers and raise rents across the country. They need to be banned

This seems a wrong message for tradition between tenants and land Lord relations. Need a space? Work hard

Isn't your master going to be upset you posting news that goes against him?

STOP foreigners from invading our country. Did you know they get free healthcare and other benefits? How much income tax you think they will pay working at a Tim Horton? The amount is zero. They only suck the life out of taxpayers!

Another shining example of the type of come-from-money predatory people who love to snap up these fast food franchises. Prolly pays staff min wage and never worked a day in his life.

I think people need to know they are not the owners of the properties and with proper notice and correct procedure the owner should be able to take the property back. I don’t agree with these tenants that think they are shared owners of the properties.
