Students at a Darwin school are choosing to go thirsty to limit the need to use the toilet after the introduction of a locked-bathroom policy to deter anti-social behaviour.

abc.net.au/news/taminmin-college-toilet-policy-vaping-vandalism-darwin/100751434Students at a Darwin school are choosing to go thirsty to limit the need to use the toilet after the introduction of a locked-bathroom policy during class time to deter anti-social behaviour.

One student has set up a petition called Taminmin Bathroom Rights and a social media page has ignited over the issue. Taminmin College board chairperson Beverley Ratahi wants to see police constables in schools "de-escalating behaviours". "The second SBPO position at Taminmin College was filled earlier this month, the officer requires further defensive tactics training and will be fully operational in May," she said.

A bit hypocritical when you seem to have no issue forcing teenage girls to share toilets with male students because of “inclusion” ACON allows you to report on this NT issue though I guess? ACONout SexNotGender

NT is really below par compared to advanced countries, a pocket of underdevelopment in the middle of Australia.

Any person needing to go to the toilet isn’t going to be able to concentrate on school work! This is ridiculous!

My local public high school has been doing that for the past year or so. They can only use the toilet in the office during class. They also banned girls from wearing tights, or short skirts, because it was 'tempting the male teachers'. That was from one of the female teachers.

Blokes can simply pee on any available garden or bushland. I would advise avoiding curry or spicy foods.

How is this even legal? How are girls supposed to schedule that their periods start during the class breaks?

BYO screw driver

I think you will find that most, if not all schools have similar policies. Am in Nth Qld and was told it was to stop disruption during lesson time and that children had plenty of time to go during their 2 breaks.

Authoritarianism starts at home.
