A judge has ordered that a Dublin man's two German Shepherds be destroyed after a court heard the unmuzzled and unleashed dogs"viciously" attacked a neighbour.
But neighbour Michael James O'Rourke told the court that on 13 November he had just left his house to bring his two smaller dogs on a walk when Mr Hamdy's German Shepherds attacked them.He said it lasted 20 to 30 seconds but he did not suffer physical injuries. However, he described it as a very traumatic event, adding that it was lucky children were no children in the vicinity.
Another couple told the court they witnessed it and claimed Mr Hamdy's dogs had repeatedly gone into their garden after a storm knocked down fencing previously. Mr Hamdy said he reported it to gardaí when he noticed damage to his door and objects missing from his house.The dog warden seized them on the day of the incident and had them in a pound since then.
The single point was that on 13 November, the two German Shepherds caused damage in an attack on a person who had been with his smaller dogs. He noted the complainant detailed the level of aggression exhibited, which was unacceptable, and the court accepted his version."And to my mind, the incident constitutes a vicious attack", Judge Halpin said.

What vile barbarism it is to slaughter these two innocent animals. The judge should be ashamed of themselves. May the rest of their nights be plagued with bad dreams & unpleasantness, for these two innocent lives deserve justice.
It’s a very sad story to be sure. But do RTÉ guidelines dictate the use of ‘destroyed’ when we’re talking about animals? Why not say ‘euthanized’ or ‘put to sleep’, etc..?
I first read owner destroyed and thought well we're onto something , but it wasn't... They should pay more than just a fine, more severe charges, years in prison, just like for reckless driving as now only poor animals pay with their life fortheir owners (responsable ones) crimes
A dog attacks a human put the dog down ..a person attacks or rapes another person ,give them a slap on wrist or a suspended sentence .far more humanity in dogs the some of the horrendous people out there

Two dogs killed because they damaged a harness. Literally no injuries caused either to the man or his smaller dogs which means there was nothing vicious about it. The fact the door was opened when gardai arrived means the dogs were let out by a third party. All very suspicious
The dogs owner should be so heavily fined they will never think of having dogs again
Larger breeds need careful training. Under the law German shepherds must be muzzled when they are out and about.

Feel so bad for the dogs, all the owner's fault. There are a few people who walk German Shepherds off-lead in the Phoenix Park and I have seen them chase after smaller dogs and some people. Not fair on the dogs or walkers. Some people are just awful.

Rightly so I've two dogs myself & yeh I know them I would never tell someone else not be frightened or '' ah they won't touch you'' because I don't know that, I do be nervous of others pets too I love mine but at the end of the day they're animals & you can't trust them

Khalid Hamdy said he did not believe his pets were dangerous, they helped him cope with post-traumatic stress disorder he had suffered since being incarcerated in 2019 in Egypt with 150 men in a cell where he witnessed torture and four people die. Deport him and his dogs.
