The arrest took place during the force's own drink-drive campaign

An officer from Northamptonshire Police was almost three times the drink-drive limit when she was arrested following a crash in Oxfordshire last December, court records show. Pc Rachel Cantwell, a neighbourhood officer based in Kettering, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was banned from driving for 23 months following a hearing at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Thursday, January 19.

The records obtained from the Court & Tribunal Service Centre also state the collision took place in Silver Lane in the village of Wantage, near Oxford. It was here where Cantwell was breathalysed and promptly arrested. Having faced the court, her force can now proceed with its own disciplinary process against her. A spokesperson from Northamptonshire Police said Cantwell would be "suspended and will be subject to misconduct proceedings in the coming weeks.”
