Hadebe said he had been at the mall to do some last-minute shopping before his trip to Mombasa, Kenya, on January 6. He said that, when he tried to enter the regular men’s toilet, two cleaners who were clad in blue uniforms blocked him from entering because they were mopping the floor, and directed him to use the one designated for people with disabilities.
Hadebe said he managed to capture the ordeal on video using his cellphone, but the men demanded that he delete the video in front of them. He said he then went to the police station on the same day to open a case, but was turned away because the police said they needed the names of the security guards who had assaulted him.On Thursday, he held a meeting with the mall management in an effort to resolve the matter, Hadebe said.
I also asked for security footage for that day, and they refused, saying they can only give that to the police. So, I had to go back to the police station to open a case.
