World Rugby is reportedly planning to follow the RFU's lead and lower the legal tackle height across all levels of elite rugby.

World Rugby is reportedly planning to follow the RFU’s lead and lower the legal tackle height across all levels of elite rugby.that World Rugby planned to roll out one of the biggest changes to the elite levels of the game since rugby went professional. This is despite the RFU coming under immense pressure for lowering the legal tackle height to the waist and below at age grade and senior amateur level in England.

“Yes, we’re looking to make sure that we are implementing a lower tackle height across all parts of the game,” Gilpin said. “How that’s actually implemented is slightly different in the community game to the elite game,” he added, hinting the new legal tackle height would not be as low as the waist. “We know, from all of the research and science and medicine, that lowering the tackle height is a really important part of making the game safer.”

It isn’t the RFU’s lead. France and New Zealand were first to recognise the need to lower the tackle height.

I'll start supporting rugby league

This is damn ridiculous. It is a contact sport, not a dance lesson. Why not go the whole way and just make it a game of touch rugby.

Soft sport now clearly to benefit the Northern Hemisphere in a bid to win another world Cup.

World rugby instigated these changes and RFU followed their lead - it must be made clear it was not the other way round

FFS...how will knee height tackles be safer than midriff tackles? 'Safety' activists are ruining rugby. Glad my playing days are behind me.

This gameis going to end up like soccer…time to start getting into GAA, Hurling and maybe NFL.

Good that's Owen Farrell fu**ked

This is really crazy. Just penalise dangerous tackles

I hope this means Springboks will be breaking away from WorldRugby ? I think we'll have plenty of others with us. We continue our code, WR does whatever in their code.

Whatever the RFU say...

90% of the best tackles we have all seen have been below the Sternum. The tackle where the carrier is folded in half and you can see his breath and his soul leave his body. Player he gets up after a bit but the psychological damage has been done. More effective than HIA every day

Oy vey…

What an absolute joke.
