California voters will have a say next year on a law passed last year that would enact certain workplace standards at fast food restaurants as a petition was able to stop the law from going into effect.
Additionally, a council that would include representatives from restaurants and franchises would be tasked with creating standards for working hours and minimum safety standards. “Despite guidance and protections for workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, a lack of protective equipment and social distancing and pressure to work at all costs has persisted,” said the state’s analysis of the legislation. A review by the Los Angeles Times of 1,600 federal OSHA complaints in the fast food industry during the pandemic found that regulators have been slow to intervene.

These types of jobs were never meant to be reliant to sustain income to support a family. These are “starter” jobs for teenagers and those that at looking to further experience. I’ll be damned if McDonald’s employee’s get paid more than healthcare workers.

WOW! I was a computer tech in an elementary for 13 years. I never made more than 13$ an hour. Guess I should have been flipping burgers instead of educating the future!!!
