Lawyers who helped win US Supreme Court case train sights on Illinois assault weapon ban

Paul Clement, who successfully argued the New York case, is one of the attorneys for the plaintiffs in the latest federal lawsuit seeking to overturn Illinois' two-week old ban.& Ellis' Washington, D.C., office who served as solicitor general of the United States, representing the government in cases before the nation's top court from 2004 to 2008, during the George W. Bush Administration.& Ellis decided it would no longer handle Second Amendment-related litigation.

RELATED: Illinois assault weapons ban faces lawsuit led by former GOP gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey "Almost no other state in the union has ever tried to adopt such an extreme measure - and for good reason, as no less an authority than the Supreme Court has already recognized that semiautomatic rifles 'traditionally have been widely accepted as lawful,'" the suit states.

The suit claims the law bans hundreds of models of rifles, "including all the most popular models in circulation." The suit seeks a declaratory judgment deeming the law to be unconstitutional. It also seeks an order that would stop enforcement of the law against the plaintiffs and their members.

Law will be overturned eventually.

The number one cause of deaths for children is guns.

Please don't ban these guns. Instead allow these guns to continue to fall in the hands of criminals. With the increase on mass shootings eventually the criminals are going to catch a few of these gun supporters family members(odds). Ain't no fun when the rabbit has the gun.
