Almost two years on, and Labour mayors and business leaders from across the North will make the case on Wednesday for an end to the use of competitive bidding systems for Government funding to reduce areas of entrenched deprivation.failed to receive any cash in the second round of bidding for the £2.1bn Levelling Up Fund.
At Wednesday’s Convention of the North in Manchester, Labour mayors including Andy Burnham, Tracy Brabin, Oliver Coppard, Steve Rotheram and Sir Roger Marsh, chair of NP11, the business-led voice for the North’s 11 Local Enterprise Partnerships, will call for an end to “winners and losers” of government funding in favour of a settlement that gives all regions the funding they need to close the gap in living standards.
