Poll: Waist-high tackles - brilliant or ridiculous? With the RFU having announced plans to enforce waist-height tackling in amateur rugby across England, talks of World Rugby following suit are doing the rounds. Is this law change going to do more harm than good? Sadly Rugby Union has been hijacked by the 'safety police' that have gradually over the years tried to make the sport less and less of a contact sport. Changing the very essence of what made the game great over 100 years+ Imagine a 70kg fullback having to tackle a 135kg prop running straight at him. Before contact the prop hunkers down for impact. The only things exposed are his elbows, shoulders and knees. Either no one will tackle him, or you will have a row of bodies on the sideline. So dumb... if they introduce this then ball carriers should be required to stay up right at impact, no hunkering down into the tackles...which could make the game more expansive, which would be a good thing.
