Actor Katherine Heigl asks lawmakers to end gas chamber euthanasia of animals in Utah

Mike McKell introduced legislation to end gas chamber euthanasia in Utah’s animal shelters during a news conference Wednesday. And to bring more attention to the issue, McKell brought celebrity reinforcement to the Capitol.

Actor and animal rights advocate Katherine Heigl — of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Ugly Truth” — said as a proud Utah resident, the use of gas chamber euthanasia puts a “black mark on this incredibly sacred place.”Animal Shelter Revisions , mandates that shelters use euthanasia by injection and requires shelters to create policies and training for euthanasia procedures, as well as documentation of that training.

The legislation, as its currently written, does provide an exception for animal control officers, allowing for the euthanization of an animal in an emergency situation outside a shelter by using the “most humane method available to the officer.” “[Gas chamber euthanasia] is the least humane method to euthanize an animal and we shouldn’t use the least humane method in our state,” McKell said.

KatieHeigl We tried to help him with meds ,get him to eat.but he wouldn't lost him less than 4 months.i still cry over him.he was my baby .cremated him so he can be buried with me.i warn people to stay away from the place..just couldn't get any help to get justice for Sneakers.2 yrs now

KatieHeigl I had taken my baby Sneakers to get groomed and they put him out and gave him too much.sent him home foaming at the mouth.rushed him to a new vet for help.took to specialist and they said they damaged his heart .I couldnt do anything to the EAST MOLINE ANIMAL HOSPITAL.
