Samson’s remains have never been found. Prosecutors believe Sandeson, who was a medical student, carried the remains out of the apartment using a black duffel bag that had contained the drugs. Suspected blood was also detected on a pair of khaki pants in the bedroom, she said, and there appeared to be blood stains on the inner door frame of the apartment’s front door, just below the doorknob.
Police executed an emergency search of the apartment at about 6:30 that evening in hopes of finding Samson alive. The apartment was secured overnight while investigators obtained a search warrant. Four other police officers testified Monday, including HRP Det. Const. Robbie Baird, who walked up to Sandeson in the driveway of the Leaman Drive home and informed he was under arrest.
RCMP Const. Marc MacMullin, who was one of those officers, said Sandeson was compliant the whole time and there was “absolutely no issue with his interaction whatsoever.”
