Benson and Stabler almost kiss in new Law & Order: SVU season 24 trailer, giving long-time fans hope that the pair will finally act on their feelings for each other. Ever since Christopher Meloni returned to the Law & Order franchise, the police procedural has been teasing a potential romance for his and Mariska Hargitay's characters. For more than a decade, Benson and Stabler worked closely together, and at certain times, it became clear that they were attracted to each other.

The incident ties to a previous case she was working on in Law & Order: SVU, and while she isn't new to being in dangerous situations, the threat to her son, Noah, was very unnerving for her. Given that, it's understandable that Stabler will make himself available for her.

Prior to the intimate moment that they share in the aforementioned trailer, SVU already dropped hints that something like this is coming. During Kelli Giddish's last SVU episode as Rollins, Benson opened up about wanting to discuss her feelings for Stabler. But since the outing wasn't crafted to focus on the narrative, the topic was immediately dropped. For now, it seems like Law & Order: SVU is really leaning towards pairing up Benson and Stabler.

That being said, it's best to keep expectations low about how this plot line will play out. For years, Law & Order: SVU was able to get this narrative going without any kind of satisfying payoff, and despite that, fans still maintained their investment in the relationship. Given this precedence, NBC can simply repeat the trick and keep this will-they/won't they trope for as many years as Dick Wolf's Law & Order franchise lasts.
