The Patriotic Front’s Gayton McKenzie’s statements that undocumented children should not be admitted to schools are not just misinformed and xenophobic, they are contrary to the law.

. On the face of it, the eight-word provision might seem nugatory, but when you delve into the true meaning of it, you find an empowerment right that plays an integral role in realising all other human rights.judgment, the Constitutional Court affirmed that the right to basic education is unqualified and immediately realisable in nature.

Gayton McKenzie’s expressions come at a time when xenophobic sentiments and associated violence are drastically increasing in South Africa. The worsening state of xenophobia and South Africa’s lack of reproach to it was recently criticised by Human Rights Watch in itsThe report, which analyses human rights conditions across the globe, notes that despite efforts to curb xenophobia, there has been little tangible improvement in protecting the rights of all migrants who reside in South Africa.

When society blindly follows these misinformed and inaccurate views and opinions, especially when it disregards human rights, we run the risk of devaluing fundamental rights that have long been fought for.

You can pay for their education, feed them and shelter them illegally. The responsibility of every country is to first look after their citizens. The constitution needs to b relooked at, it's more for non citizens than for citizens Thts y the country is where it is

We haven't got time for media manipulation Gayton is right period

There must be a law passed that media houses like the Maverick must be outlawed for pushing a anti SAn agenda..

Thanks, now we know which other part of the Constitution to change.

Illegal means crime

The Opinionista

Not surprised...JosVenter works for the evil Helen Suzman Foundation. He advocates for lawlessness and destruction of South Africa.

Which law says children of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (who are criminals for contravening the immigration act) should be admitted at schools before children of citizens of South Africa? Whoever wrote this opinion should not bore us nor undermine us.

We can't be seen to be rewarded lawlessness as a country. Later in life, they will demand ID'S and citizenship saying they're in the country for more than 10 Years. Additionally, what would motivate foreigners to use the border gate when they benefit if they're here illegally?

I have nothing against foreign nationals but if our SA born kids get turned down because the schools are full......that is just not right. Do you think it in any way fair to SA kids being turned down because foreigners children are taking their spaces.

We have been trying since before Grade 8 to get our grandson into the local govt school. He is now continuing with home schooling....starting Grade 11.......born in SA & many of his ancestors. Now answer this please.......lots of foreign national kids, but no space for him!!

Legaly speaking & quoting the SA Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2001 & its amendmends read together with its regulations all foreign Nationals whether minor or adult is legaly required 2 obtain a valid study visa 2 enrol & study any educational institution. So Gayton isnt wrong.

Which law ?

Firstly being undocumented could mean they are in the country illegally therefore CANNOT be allowed to use our country's resources and facilities. South African budget and schools can only accommodate South African children.

And such irresponsibility in the public service sphere must be held accountable
