The Ottawa Fire Services hazard materials squad spreads material on the road surface to contain the diesel fuel that leaked from the ruptured fuel tank of the OC Transpo bus involved in the collision on Saturday.The bus had three diesel tanks with a total capacity of 500 litres. At the time of Saturday’s collision, there were about 350 litres onboard. Only one fuel tank was damaged.

Hazmat crews set up a “transfer pump,” placing a hose inside the damaged tank and draining the fuel into an undamaged container, and they spent two hours spreading 60 bags of absorbent material on diesel fuel that had leaked onto the road surface.Elsewhere, a woman in her 50s was taken to hospital by ambulance following a collision on the eastbound Highway 417 near the Moodie Drive exit shortly after noon Saturday.

Paramedics said they assessed two people, but only one was injured. The woman was transported to a hospital trauma centre in serious, but stable condition.
