William Smith, 73, was caught with child sex abuse images following an intelligence-led Police Scotland operation solely into his offending

William Smith, 73, was hauled into the docks at Perth Sheriff Court following an intelligence-led operation by Police Scotland. Operation Acuate, launched solely into the abhorrent offending of Smith, found the pervert to be in possession of a number of horrific indecent images of children.

After pleading guilty on November 21, the beast was today convicted of the crimes and caged for 13 months. Detective Inspector Anna Johnston, National Child Abuse Investigation Unit, Police Scotland said: "Operation Acuate was an intelligence led investigation into the abhorrent offending of William Smith. In committing these crimes online he was of the mistaken belief that the internet provided him with a level of anonymity which shielded him from law enforcement.

“William Smith was mistaken in this belief. Actions like his fuel a demand for the creation of horrific child abuse videos and images, each of which will have involved the sexual abuse of a child. William Smith now knows that there is no hiding place for offenders like him, and as a result of our investigation he will now rightly face a custodial sentence and the consequences of his actions.
