Former Portland lawyer Lori E. Deveny was sentenced to 8 years in prison for defrauding clients of millions of dollars, which she spent on hunting trips and at a nudist resort.

Portland business owners say this holiday shopping season is more crucial than ever as burglaries, vandalism and other problems have them struggling to stay afloat., lawyer defrauded injured clients out of millions of dollars in insurance payments – then spent some of the cash on lavish trips to a nudist resort, an African safari and other destinations, federal prosecutors said.

"It’s hard to overstate the extraordinary impact Ms. Deveny’s crimes had on the many innocent and vulnerable victims who trusted her," Ethan Knight, chief of the Economic Crimes Unit for the U.S. Attorney's Office, said in a statement. Former Portland lawyer Lori E. Deveny, 57, was sentenced to 101 months in federal prison for defrauding clients.
