The CHR said it has started investigating the death threats made against martial law survivor and playwright Bonifacio Ilagan. | dempseyreyesINQ /PDI

The CHR, now chaired by Richard Palpal-latoc, who was appointed by President Marcos last year, cited Ilagan’s past wherein he was tortured during the time of the President’s father and namesake.

The CHR reminded the national government of its duties and responsibilities under the Constitution and the Philippines’ commitment to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. “CHR also reminds the government that it is responsible for protecting artists’ rights and freedoms,” it added.
