A local man was acquitted of assault charges Friday after a key Crown witness was a no show for his trial.
Ryan Pears faced four counts of assault with an edged weapon involving two complainants stemming from an incident that occurred in May of 2020. The 47-year-old man pleaded not guilty to the offences, as well as a charge of mischief for allegedly damaging an apartment door. Following the accused's pleas, prosecutor Robert Skeggs asked the court to enter an acquittal because an essential witness wasn't there to testify
"I won't be offering any evidence or asking for an adjournment," the assistant Crown attorney told Ontario Court Justice John Condon.
