For the second time in the past few weeks, a full-court press proves problematic for Ohio State as Justice Sueing's late turnover opens the door for Purdue to steal a win.

Justice Sueing received the inbounds pass from Bruce Thornton, drew a double team on a full-court press from Purdue and turned his gaze to the middle of the court. A sixth-year forward among several freshmen on the court for the Buckeyes, Sueing figured to possess the late-game poise that some of his younger counterparts may have lacked. But the veteran made the most costly error of the night, bouncing a pass off the hardwood and into the hands of Purdue’s Ethan Morton.

Perhaps you could point to either execution errors as the cause for Ohio State’s late collapse. But the turnover may be more concerning because it wasn’t the first time the Buckeyes have fallen victim to a fullcourt press late in a razor-close contest.at Madison Square Garden last month, the Tar Heels dialed up a press that forced Ohio State into multiple late turnovers and led to more than one huge shot in the comeback.

Before the turnover, Sueing was having a stellar night. He was the only Buckeye besides Sensabaugh, who led the way with 21 points, to crack double figures, finishing with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting. He also added four boards and a pair of assists.

It’s the “blueprint” for beating OSU. Now Coach Chris….let’s teach these great players how to properly break a press and make the opponent PAY for even trying. Put an end to this crap!

Holtmann might have an inbounds play, but he obviously can’t teach it.

In coaching my rule to my players is: never throw the ball backwards or toward the opponents rim against a full court press.

It wasn’t the press. It was OSU’s most veteran player, Sueing, making a bonehead play that not even middle schoolers would make! Let’s put the blame where it is deserved.

His teams just absolutely shit themselves in the final 4 minutes. New kids, new roster, this or that, it's the same old shit.

Yes, hard to imagine a veteran player making that mistake. I’m sure the team has worked on this but it didn’t look like it last night.

We call this the Holtmann special. Been this way his entire time here and I’m tired of watching it

For some reason, many college teams don’t have or can’t execute a press break….something that is taught and practiced at the high school level every day. It’s baffling.

Great game. Terrible in bounds play?

If Sueing just moved past his defender up the court he would've been fouled but he turned back right into the trap...just poor decision making but moreso poor coaching

Holtman is like desth and taxes.

Dan_Hope It was extremely lazy of a pass for a 5 year senior !

Did any of out of the timeout plays work that Holtman called? I don’t believe they did.. He just doesn’t seem to be an X & O type of coach. And if he is in fact drawing up great plays why then do players fail to execute them so often?

No way a D1 team at this level can’t break a press. That’s on Holtman and his staff. My sons 5th grade team can break a press. This is hoops 101. He also can’t hold a lead or coach with a lead. It’s an epidemic and his players freeze like the head coach. Frankly It’s embarrassing

Stop

I'm way more concerned about the amount of offensive rebounds we ALLOWED. This and some v e r y conspicuous bad calls by referee Robert Riley. He sucked this game.

The more I think about it, the more horrible that inbound play was. Sueing could have made the inbound pass to about five or six different guys who are all quicker, able to handle the ball, and good FT shooters. That play was just about the worst possible thing OSU could do.

Great very true headline

And he’s the veteran. What does that tell you

And a horrific execution of a 6 second play. Need to determine if this is coaching or player execution.

It’s time we stop saying it’s a young team and start making changes. The ball was designed to be in Sueings hands and he has never been that secure with it. Odd choice
