While his Damascene conversion is welcome, it does reinforce the suspicion that lack of empathy, or inability to imagine yourself in the shoes of those less fortunate, is pretty much a cornerstone of the Tory mindset. It has to happen to them personally or they don’t care

When these cuts went through parliament, 'centrist' Labour MPs such as YvetteCooperMP and lizkendallPM abstained. Couldn't bring themselves to oppose it. jeremycorbyn didn't abstain. He voted against. Looks like he was right.
The whole system of justice has always been corrupt. What justice when the wealthy can buy a better defence than the poor?
It's easy for people in the establishment to utilise systems of redress, the ordinary member of the public has little to fight the corrupt. The irony is the people in positions of power are probably guilty of their crimes, manipulating and using their power to escape justice.
Odd that Tory MPs only attack austerity, cuts etc. when they are personally affected by them. Is Evans also against cuts to NHS, Police etc?

The British legal aid bill is the highest in Europe, in fact it is higher than Germany France and Italy combined and yet any attempt to cut this is seen as an attack on liberty? No it isn't
