The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms will axe staff, lawyers and paralegals and is starting a new litigation group.

“The justice centre is going to be making some spending cuts, it is the necessary and responsible thing to do,” Carpay says.Article content The JCCF is a registered charity. In 2021, according to financial documents filed with the Canada Revenue Agency, the JCCF earned roughly $6.5 million, largely in the form of gifts for which tax receipts were issued. It spent roughly $4 million on its combined activities.Article content

Carpay returned in August 2021. In an email provided to the National Post, dated Sept. 20, 2022, Carpay says donors “view my judge-surveillance decision as legitimate and justified, or as a mistake that has been thoroughly apologized for, which should now be forgiven and forgotten.”Article content The Sept. 20 email says the organization will employ 15 or more lawyers and 10 or more paralegals, and its members and directors will not be the same as those on the board of the JCCF.
