Jailed teacher Enoch Burke has told the High Court that he is not interested in what he called a"Christmas gift" of being let out of Mountjoy Prison during the festive period.
Mr Burke has spent the last three-and-a-half months behind bars over his continued failure to obey a court order to stay away and not try to teach at Wilson's Hospital School in Co Westmeath. Mr Justice Dignam, in light of the fact that Mr Burke was refusing to comply with a valid court order, declined to release him.The judge said that given that the school will be closed during the forthcoming holidays, the court would consider submissions from the parties whether Mr Burke should be released from Mountjoy during that period.
He said that he did not want to be allowed out of prison in this manner, under what he described as"an attempt by the court to salvage its conscience by offering mercy or clemency to me".
Good I’m glad he is staying where he belongs. The child and children in the school he taught can have a good christmas without worry I seeing him show up to torment them. 👏👏

Wow...what a country Ireland is turning out to be....puts a man in jail for months for refusing to go along with the pronoun game which is backed by a twisted ideology....but we have no problem letting real criminals walk free and receive suspended sentences...

This guy is in for a HUGE settlement when he sues school for not following proper procedures on his suspension. He knows he has them, and that's where the real case lies. This is a stunt to raise the profile of this case. He is no fool. Nollaig shona duit Enoch.

He shouldn't have been offered the release in the first place. You receive a sentence you serve it this is the penalty for his actions
This is such a sad situation.Happened to meet a family who had kids in his school. He is a fantastic & much respected teacher, such a pity that some form of interventions couldn’t have resolved this issue. Ireland has lost the run of itself, big government fiasco! Education_Ire

Maybe we should pray for Mr Burke. That he may purge his disrespect for the rule of law and return to the arms of his family. It's Christmas. Enoch can't hide away in prison forever. Maybe he fears disappointing his family and supporters. Can anyone spare a few prayers for Enoch?

Judiciary is getting very worried. No rational person can look at this an say justice is being served. Fair play to him, a man of principle. Next week we will hear of all the murderers, pedos, rapists and junkies getting temporary release for the Christmas while he sits prison.
I tell ya what, this fellow has to be admired for his stance on his own beliefs. History will make him a hero and I can see a movie being made of his life. Again, courts picking on the little man. Had he borrowed millions and went bankrupt he wouldn’t even have visited a prison.
