JUST IN: President Biden has signed the Respect for Marriage act into law which codifies same-sex and interracial marriages with a large celebration on the South Lawn of the White House.

And his signing of the Respect for Marriage Act TuesdayDuring the 2008 campaign, Biden, as former President Barack Obama's running mate,,"No. Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage."

It was a delicate line the Democrats were walking then. In 2004, the issue of same-sex marriage was a lightning rod. Anti-same-sex marriage amendments were put on various state ballots. Then-President George W. Bush backed a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, and white Christian evangelicals helped Bush win reelection.

Democrats had moved toward the half-measure of civil unions — giving legal rights to gay couples, but, largely because of the politics, were not ready to come out fully in support of"marriage."As vice president, Biden got out ahead of President Obama in advocating for same-sex marriage — on national television.."And will you be loyal to the person you love? ... whether they're marriages of lesbians or gay men or heterosexuals.

He continued:"Look, I am vice president of the United States of America. The president sets the policy. I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly, I don't see much of a distinction beyond that.

"Would I have preferred to have done this in my own way, in my own terms, without there being a lot of notice to everybody?" ObamaBiden's appearance came at something of an inflection point. This was in an election year and at a time when the country was still split on acceptance of same-sex marriage. Three days before he went onAfterward, support continued to rise.

There is nothing wrong with interracial marriage. I hate stupid laws.

They’ve been legal. What is this act really trying to accomplish………..

The Disrespect for Marriage act. You're confusing lust with love. Disrespect God and God will Disrespect you.

Interracial marriage has been legal for over 50years. Same-sec marriage has also been legal. What did this law accomplish?

Yeh

What happens to acts, orders and laws signed by an illegitimate administration? Bye, bye, bye!!

Disrespect for JESUS act. 〽️

I remember marching in 2008. So grateful to finnaly see it enacted into law. Love truly does win

That’s gonna piss off the necks.

That's crazy, I thought the abortion thing months ago meant all the republicans we're coming for this next!

love the local NPR radio station in the Springs

'This is a big f*cking deal'

YOU KNOW WHY ? BECAUSE THEY FUCKED UP, THE 1ST LAW, IT ONLY LET YOU MARRY, BUT DID NOT PROTECT YOU FROM RAMIFICATIONS. IN OTHER WORDS, THE LIBERALS ARE POOR PLANNERS, AND POOR ADMINISTRATORS.

WXXINews Cool. Next: get his demented buttocks to the BORDER to see the crisis. Not that he’s capable of doing anything about it or is in charge. But a token visit even to acknowledge the crisis. Or nah.

Surely this will reassert American dominance

pretending you are comforting the minorities and pacifying identity politics isn't how you run the country🤡🌏

Awesome pic! Such a great day!

The equivalent of a sacrifice bunt with nobody on base. The manufactured bogeyman.

This is useless waste of time. Those marriages are already legal

Just another reason to throw a celebration. 🥳 party time🥂

Biden has had more legislative achievements in his first two years of office than the last three presidents across all of their terms. Jesus Christ this is a weird timeline.

We're here, we're queer, and we're equal! (that's the hope, at least)

After this, he took a nap. 🤣🤣

Respect that marriage has always been between a man and a woman.

Republicans are so regressive it must be so embarrassing to be one.

It does no such thing. It says that marriages are recognized federally. Doesn't peotect against states enacting restrictions nor does it protect Obergefell.

To the Supreme Court we go!

what a useless act
