After the Harris County District Attorney's Office was unsuccessful in a punishment retrial, a Harris County death row inmate convicted of killing a Houston police officer more than 30 years ago is facing a different sentence.
For years, the case went through various courts of appeals, but in 2019, it was returned to Harris County. Instead of going back to trial for capital murder, Jones pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery for an armed robbery he committed and for which he was never convicted.
Murder trials should be convened within 90 days of the murders. When there are (2) or more corroborating witnesses that testify to the crime, sentencing should be within 180 days and executions carried out immediately! That's swift justice not this present day trial circus!
