If there is a holy trinity of Canadian politics, it is health care, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and official bilingualism. We are living in troubled…

only half of whose mother tongue is English. The rest of the so-called Anglo community are new Canadians, most of whom speak French fluently, but use English as their common language.Article content

Within these populations are citizens who have a right to services and opportunities from the Government of Canada, which has been the principle of bilingualism since the 1960s. The intent of the original Official Languages Act was not that everyone should be bilingual, as Pierre Trudeau reminded Canadians repeatedly, but that government services would be provided in both official languages.

•It uses Quebec’s Charter of the French Language, Bill 96, as the standard for federally regulated businesses in Quebec, which means banks, transport and communication companies will be subject to the Office Québécois de la Langue Française; As a Francophile who has fought for Francophone minority rights in the rest of Canada all my adult life, whose children were educated in French in Ontario, and who works and lives in French, I applaud the efforts to defend the French language outside Quebec. And while French is not threatened in Quebec, it is in decline in the rest of Canada. However, punishing one minority community does nothing to promote the other.

It doesnt even come close to what Canadians have done to French in the ROC. Please, your rhodesian rhetoric is ridiculous . You must be an angryphone from Québec

I believe English Canada shouldn't have to learn/speak French, a language they don't like or need. Yet I believe Québec is a French state and should enforce strict language laws.

'Suppress english' lol

What's the difference between Canada and the United States? Only Québec ⚜️.

🤡

The PM for Quebec should work on Quebec separation.

Quebec doesn't need help writing its own anti-English laws.

Thats our Trudeau, divisive as ever. I didn't vote for him.

Bonjour, it's easier to live in English in Quebec than to live in French anywhere else in this beautiful 'bilingual' country

Why are we ‘tolerating’ the federal Liberals? We need to wake up. Fast.

It’s not about good governance, it’s about buying votes.

Unfortunately this is the reality in Canada. The people are easily triggered by government approved woke injustice, but utterly blind to actual injustice and systemic discrimination. Quebec can trample the rights and freedoms of certain groups and we all just go along.

Wow, an article from the National Post not bashing the Sovereignty Act!

Let them go ,start Negotiations for Qeubexit

JustinTrudeau doing one of his bests, destroying national unity.

Same as it has been for decades then? You guys reporting on TwitterFiles2 today?

Liberals are always rushing to help Quebec.
