A 57-year-old P.E.I. man was sentenced on Dec. 5, 2022, to a total of seven years in prison for sexually abusing three children.CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — While holding a small white teddy bear, a young woman told the man in court convicted of sexually abusing her, and two other girls as children, that he ruined their lives and the childhood experiences that should have made them happy and joyful."No one should have to go through that ever, but we did.

With the guilty pleas in place, Crown attorney John Diamond read in court an agreed statement of facts. The sex offences against the two other girls involving the charge of sexual interference occurred from 2012 to 2016, and 2015, to Oct. 1, 2021, respectively. Diamond and the sex offender's legal-aid lawyer Trish Cheverie presented the court with a joint recommendation for a total sentence of seven years in prison.

He was given enhanced credit of 1.5 days for each day in custody, totalling 638 days of credit to be deducted from the seven-year sentence.
