Opinion: The A4 Revolution vs high-tech totalitarianism in China - is this start of a new resistance?

Teng Biao A REVOLUTION WAS, perhaps still is, happening in a place where demonstrations are highly unlikely: China.

Source: Ahn Young-joon In June, before two human rights lawyers departed to meet their client, a citizen journalist sentenced to four years for her reports of the outbreak of Covid-19, their health code suddenly turned red, which was considered a manipulation by the authorities to restrict their travel. This has happened to thousands of petitioners in Henan Province, as well.

The fire that killed dozens of Uyghurs in Urumchi sparked this wave of protests. Still, people’s frustration and anger have accumulated for three years since the coronavirus outbreak and ten years since Xi Jinping came to power. What infuriated people is not only the endless lockdown but also the arbitrariness, absurdity, atrocities and corruption in the name of dealing with Covid.

The A4 Revolution might be crushed for now, but the courage, solidarity and powerful voice for freedom and democracy will enlighten people, inspire activism, and eventually overthrow this giant regime that is based on violence and fear.

The totalitarian regime is just changing continent's, and legacy Media and governments are colluding,

No, just a few US paid shills and crap propaganda from the likes of this rag. Harvard study found 95pc satisfaction with party system in china amongst Chinese public. Could our 'leaders' even touch that? Journal is a rag that begs money from the state to spread Misinformation.

The Journal were mad for lockdowns and zero covid. They ignored for the most part anyone who dared venture a sensible approach. If the government invoked once again invoked emergency legislation tomorrow they’d unquestionably go along with it, no doubt.

Pure drivel. A few local protests hyped by western media that would love to see civil war in China. The Chinese government responded by slackening local lockdowns and all is quiet again. The A4 holders are paying d Western operatives, $200 a protest I'm told.

Didn’t The Journal have a hard-on for zero covid and strict lockdowns ? There’s still people being prosecuted for lockdown breaches in the courts but not a peep about it.

3. I also visited Urumqi in Xinjiang. It reminded me of Belfast 1970-80s with police and army guarding all public buildings and strict parking restrictions. This kicked off about 10 years ago when Muslims killed 27 Chinese in Kunming Railway Station. The Chinese then clamped down

Nor did I hear this totalitarianism mentioned by many. I did see a lack of homelessness, aggression, muggings, extreme poverty, hooliganism, graffiti and such. Women could walk the streets 24-7 free from fear and most people had a smile on their face. Is that totalitarianism?

You do realise that China has a system of govt that works and citizens are generally happy with. The citizens protested re strict Covid laws and Govt relaxed laws. As one who spent several years in that country I saw none of this totalitarianism so often spoken on in the West.

Trócaire is another bogus 'charity'. Don't give those chancers a cent. The EU is just a crime cartel. Anyone who doesn’t get that needs their head examined.
