'Right thing to do in the moment': President JoeBiden signs bill averting Christmas rail strike

President Joe Biden signed the just-passed bill averting a national railroad strike into law Friday, calling the agreement"the right thing to do" even though it excluded an increase in paid sick leave for rail workers.

Biden specifically thanked Democrats and Republicans for"avoiding a catastrophic rail strike" before the holidays and"keeping our economy on a stable footing.""Our nation's rail system is literally the backbone of our supply chain, as you all well know, and so much of what we rely on is delivered by rail, from clean water to food and gas and every other good.

"Look, I know this bill doesn’t have paid sick leave these rail workers, and frankly every worker in America, deserves, but that fight isn’t over," the president said. "I've supported paid sick leave for a long time," he said."I'm going to continue that fight until we succeed."

JoeBiden The unions say they're mad,but come 2024 they will be throwing all the union dues behind whoever has the big D after their name.

JoeBiden If I am a rail worker, I no longer want to pay union dues. Congress/President just basically said we make the rules and your union means nothing

JoeBiden A 90 day extension of talks was an option. Biden chose instead to force a contract that union members didn't want. This is not a government decision!
