Mail-order abortion became legal when the pandemic put a halt to most face-to-face doctor visits and the FDA relaxed dispensing rules.

This seriously increases the risks for women aborting at home. It means life-threatening complications such as ectopic pregnancies and certain infections, as well as signs of abuse, could be missed -- and that could prove disastrous.

Having walked with so many women through difficult pregnancies, it concerns me greatly that women using the abortion pill at home aren’t getting the holistic care and information they need to make an informed choice. Nor are they receiving the in-person support that’s vital.“Mail-order” or “self-managed” abortion can be a desperately lonely and distressing experience.
