A barrister for the UK government has told the Supreme Court that there has been no constitutional change as a result of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

BBC News NI

It is challenged by unionist politicians who say it breaches the Acts of Union and the Northern Ireland Act.Mr McGleenan told the court "the idea that there has been a de facto termination of the union is not a tenable proposition". "The protocol, taken as a whole and when one looks at some of its individual provisions in-depth, undoubtedly conflicts with Article 6 of the Acts of Union and we say this is acknowledged by the respondent," Mr Larkin said.Mr McGleenan said there had been "much misunderstanding" about what the protocol meant for the Acts of Union.

He said that law was designed to guarantee constitutional change would not take place "without the consent of the people of Northern Ireland in a referendum". "It remains the case that any engagement between the government and the EU on the terms of exit from the EU are non-justiciable matters.

Jolene looking as happy as ever 😂 Must be on a come down!

Whenever you consider it’s still called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and others still demanding a united Ireland I would tend to agree.

It's not like anyone in England who puts the Conservatives into government time and time again would give 2 shites if northern Ireland was cast out of the UK union, the 'Paddies' are nothing but a pain in their collective arses.

Arse bandits.. imagine looking and England and wanting their Brexit.. the radical settlers need to pack up and move home How many times do they need to embarrass themselves in public? That Jethro - self-styled 'leader of Ulster unionism' - should have chosen to 'die in a ditch' over the Protocol, demonstrates idiocy of the first order - because he has left himselfno room for manoeuvre, by taking his direction on a daily basis from loyalist paramilitary groups.
