Historian files complaint over university job posting open only to women, Indigenous people, those with disabilities and racialized groups.

In the job posting, Laval says it has a diversity, equity and inclusion plan that aims to increase representation of women, Indigenous people, those with disabilities and minority groups in Canada Research Chair positions. Bastien, who blogs for the tabloid Journal de Montreal, also noted he has concerns about a self-identification questionnaire that asks prospective applicants about their racial identity, sexual orientation and whether they live with disabilities.

“Unfortunately, the law prevents us from acknowledging whether a complaint has or has not been received in our system,” Robitaille responded in an email. “How do you know the correct number of white males or white females … or people with the colour of skin that you want?” said Bastien. “How many elementary school professors should be males? Equally outrageous is this is one of 2,285 highly-paid Canada Research Chair positions funded by taxpayers for 'research' on subjects that have zero relevance... other than to advance their neo-Marxist agenda. If you are not outraged, you are not paying attention.

He is being discriminated against because of his race. Unfortunately, in Canada racial discrimination is perfectly legal under section 15.2 of the constitution. We can thank Pierre Trudeau for that gift

If those were the posted criteria, the job ad was overtly racist and sexist. Unacceptable. Offensive. Disgusting.

Equality of outcome is wrong, plain and simple. This is what is being done here. Equality of opportunity is what needs to occur. The second an organization pre-determines that a set of people are to be excluded solely based on skin colour that org has failed and is racist.

I guess it depends on which definition of racism you recognise. The old one was 'any bias based on race'. The new one is 'all white people are bad'.

Should always be the most qualified candidate. Everyone should have an equal opportunity for all jobs. Maybe, to be fair, all mention of race,gender, etc should be removed. Rely strictly on qualifications/potential to vet files for interview.

How is anyone shocked by this? It has been going on for years. In 1981 when I joined the work force it was already happening. Then they do out of sequence promotions, again passing over more qualified candidates to put a desired minority in the job.

rexglacer It's happening in many professions, and it's always been discriminatory. You fight discrimination with equality and acceptance, not further discrimination. Best candidate gets the job. Race, religion, gender do not matter.

He’s right, it’s racist, and sexist, but if would just identify as a women and wear large prosthetic breasts he can apply and this can all be avoided.
