The Ohio Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for a Columbus man who killed his ex-girlfriend and their 4-year-old daughter by repeatedly stabbing them in January 2018.for Kristofer Garrett, 29, for murdering 34-year-old Nicole Duckson and 4-year-old Kristina Duckson outside the Ducksons’ home on Columbus' Southeast Side.unanimously upholding Garrett’s aggravated murder convictions. But the court split along party lines 4-3 on whether Garrett should receive the death penalty.

In 2019, jurors decided the circumstances of Kristina’s murder — that she was a child under age 13 and that Garrett killed her to cover up her mother's murder — were so brutal that death was an appropriate sentence.
