State forced to cancel 33,000 fines so far but Revenue NSW argues ‘technical’ supreme court decision ‘does not mean offences were not committed’

The government’s hand was forced by a test case, run by Redfern Legal Centre, which argued that police did not provide sufficient detail about the offence, a breach of the Fines Act.

Almost immediately after filing a court challenge, Pank’s fine was withdrawn, something he described at the time as “ridiculous”. On Tuesday evening Pank said he was frustrated it had taken this long for the government to concede its error in the two remaining cases. Another resident who was fined for riding a bike in a different council area, despite being within 5km of his home, said the government’s attitude to concerns about the enforcement of fines had been baffling.

“NSW Police CoP Mick Fuller has told his officers he won’t hold them to account for wrongly issuing COVID-19 fines. I have said before, if you write a ticket, and you get it wrong, I understand, and I won’t hold you to account for that.” August 2021.

Political stunt by NSW's COOKER IN CHIEF Perrettot , essentially buying NSW COOKERS' Cult votes in hope it helps his govt remain in power in a few months time .....

NSW to withdraw COVID-19 fines worth millions of dollars after landmark decision by Supreme CourtMillions of dollars worth of fines issued for breaching COVID-19 restrictions are being scrapped - following a landmark decision by the NSW Supreme Court. Good. So many fines were so unfair now we know some were illegal. Brilliant, so all the people who behaved and continue to behave irresponsibly during this pandemic will feel validated. Presumably they want the same conditions as present in children’s hospitals in Canada atm Never in any doubt dim wits 🤣🤣
