A self-employed man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court Friday with assaulting his wife, which was the fifth wife-beating case within the last three months.

Kota Kinabalu: .Adrah Alias, 41, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to causing hurt on his 33-year-old wife’s neck and wrist at a premises at Kingfisher Plaza, Inanam at 10.30pm on Nov 16, this year. Adrah allegedly committed an offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

The court set January 6 for pre-trial case management and released Adrah on a bail of RM2,500 in two sureties. Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or one month in jail for engaging in a gambling session. Goh Ming Chong admitted to having three pieces of Wahui riddles without a licence at 1.25pm on Sept 28, in Putatan town.
