Government never considered ending trucker vaccine mandate because of protests, minister says cdnpoli

Anand said there was never any serious consideration of using soldiers during the Freedom Convoy protests and she would have pushed back against any proposal to do so.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary Herald, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. The inquiry has previously seen texts from then Alberta premier Jason Kenney who complained that the federal government wouldn’t provide those vehicles. Anand said the military’s tow trucks are not designed for moving civilian vehicles, but are designed for moving tanks. The vehicles would have to have been operated by Canadian Armed Forces personnel and Anand said she was also concerned having the military show up at a civilian protest in Canada would have escalated the situation.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, who brought in the vaccine mandate which was a spark for many protesters, said he believed the decision to impose the requirement on truckers was justifiable based on science. Alghabra said his departments developed a proposal for a “maximum enforcement,” to have both federal and provincial officials strictly enforce licensing rules and other regulations, but they received resistance from provinces.Article content

Good!

It’s a moot point…It would make little difference what Canada decided as the USA had vaccine requirements that prevented unvaccinated truckers from crossing the international border.

🤣🤣🤣 cause our science is different here. While Canada was doubling down, other countries were lifting restrictions...
