A 20-year-old hiker who is considered"overdue" is being sought by conservation officers in New Hampshire.
Emily Sotelo was dropped off at Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia Sunday morning, planning to hike a route of Mount Lafayette, Hayack and Flume, according to a news release Sunday evening from New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division. Police describe her as 5 feet 3 inches tall, 115 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. npadpodcast Sadly this has been changed from a rescue to a recovery search now. It could be a long time before they find her if she went off trail up there. I hiked often there in my youth, and the geology leaves lots of places a cold, scared person could hole up that you would never find.
Franconia Ridge is one of the most popular trails in all of the White Mountains, but there can’t have been very many people up there yesterday. If the news reports are accurate, her planned hiking route is a very lengthy one (14 mi), which must be complicating the search efforts.
