A football coach accused of sexual assaults and rape "groomed and abused boy after boy after boy after boy," a court heard yesterday. Prosecutor Michael McIntosh said Russell Conn, who worked as a carer in a boys' home, was guilty of "the grooming and manipulation and sexual abuse of teenage boys".
He described one of Conn's alleged victims as "a tortured soul" adding: "He thought he was the only one - but Mr Conn abused boy after boy after boy after boy." Conn, 59, denies abusing three boys, now aged 42, 27 and 23, between 1995 and 2014. The 27-year-old, now a dad-of-three, sobbed and shook while giving evidence. He said he attempted suicide after being abused between 2008 and 2009. He added: "I've not been able to hold a job because I can't trust older men. Because of my mental health, it's a real struggle at times. Even to this day I still struggle to go to the toilet."
