High Court gives the Department of Health the green light to push ahead with its NHI plans.

The Department of Health says that South Africa’s courts have given it the green light to push ahead with recruitment processes to fill positions within the proposed National Healthcare Insurance scheme.

Solidary took exception to the process, arguing that it is unlawful for the government to forge ahead with hiring people for jobs in a system that has not yet been passed by parliament and signed into law. It launched an urgent court bid to stop the process.Health department spokesperson Foster Mohale said that the court’s decision had given the department the green light to continue the recruitment process.

“Let them make inputs to ensure that it is successful instead of dismissing the intervention,” he said., Mohale said that there is currently no cost estimate for the scheme because it will be rolled out in phases and is dependent on National Treasury for funding guidelines. As the parliamentary process continues, the Department of Health is continuing to lay the groundwork for the system.

ConCourt refuses Mkhwebane leave to appeal high court order on Sars 'rogue unit'The Constitutional Court has unanimously dismissed a last-ditch attempt by suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane to appeal a high court order that set aside her report into an alleged “rogue unit” at the South African Revenue Service (Sars). I did not expect them to deviate from their known protocol and adopted attitude for Adv Mkhebane and anything that smells Pravin or CR. We know these guys are anti Mkhwebane. At least she can now focus her energy on saving her job and what is left of career. She has more to offer SA than running after CR and his administration. The Rouge Unit chapter is done and closed it is time to move on.
