Western Cape prosecutions head Nicolette Bell says Judge President John Hlophe got the law on corruption wrong – and created a “misleading precedent” – when he acquitted ANC MP Bongani Bongo of trying to corruptly collapse Parliament’s Eskom Inquiry.

And, while Hlophe insists that it would not be possible for the National Prosecuting Authority to put Bongo on trial again if it successfully challenged his decision to grant the former state security minister a Section 174 discharge at the close of the State’s case, Bell says the judge president is wrong on that as well.
