SINGAPORE - Public transport operator SBS Transit will, in the next few months, trial a system on the Downtown Line that automatically tweaks train schedules to cater to changes in passenger demand.
For instance, more trains could be scheduled to arrive at a station that is expected to fill up with commuters due to a sporting event or a concert. Mr Jeffrey Sim, chief executive of SBST’s rail business, said during a panel discussion that his firm’s trial with Siemens Mobility comes at a time when public transport ridership patterns have shifted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
