Ontario employers with 25 or more employees are now required to have an electronic monitoring policy. The legislation is provoking debate about tracking workers across Canada.

Starting on Tuesday, Ontario employers with 25 or more employees will be required to have an electronic monitoring policy. It's part of the Working for Workers Act, and it makes the province the only one in Canada with legislation on employee monitoring.

"It's technically like being spied on. So it's within your rights to know if it's happening," Chowdhury said. The Ontario legislation applies to all employees using company-issued devices — whether the employer is tracking the GPS of a delivery truck driver or the emails of an office worker. But she said there is more work to be done because the legislation doesn't actually give employees any new rights to privacy or do much to discourage employers from overly intrusive monitoring. Still, Irwin said she expects employees to take a stand if they feel uncomfortable once they find out how much they are being monitored.

Business You better believe they are. I can see every file my coworkers have opened in an internal program designed to communicate and remind.

This is so wrong .There will be a revolt against this

Anyo r who thinks this is great need to really think twice what this means. You are not animals which need to be tracked.

So fed workers are all tracked?

Big Brother syndrome?

The punchline. You can be monitored at home, but feel free to hide in your cubicle all day and surf for porn.

Dystopia, courtesy of Conservatives.

Some entities may be very aggressive in taking full control over humanity.

rhondamorton I’m tracked everywhere I go. How long I’m stopped for, if I’m speeding, if I have a hard brake or if I crash 🤷🏻‍♀️. TruckDriver

Big Brother is watching

So whats the issue? It's company property you are using, laptop, cellphone, tablets, vehicles and all software, files (Physical or intellectual) and even office supplies like printers and copiers. If they want to monitor their stuff fine. Use your own devices.

Required? Really?

For the slow to read fast to comment folks, the article is about requiring companies to notify employees IF they are electronically monitoring employees on WORK devices and the details around that. NOT employers are required to monitor employees.

They need to track people on government assistance. Their making extra wages by taking jobs on Kijji under the table. Or their saying their a single parent. Their on assistance but driving expensive cars.

An employee obviously needs 2 laptops, one for work and one for private business.

Here's a thought. Go back to the office and work.

Not much different than if you were at the workplace where the boss can check on you anytime

PnPCBC lets hear your anti Ford take on this. Should be good.

Haha you're gonna get what you ask for

Wow, at least wait for the article to be released so that we can dissect the language in it.

Why is this any of the government's concern? You can see where this is leading to?

I don't care if it's not my laptop, company stuff sure, I drove with trackers, cameras and so many diagnostics that they would get a notification if you sped longer than 60 seconds and you'd get a call, stay from my personal tech and I don't care

Where is the federal government on this? Stop using COVID to infringe on people’s right to privacy. If an employee is not been productive, you can just dismiss him.

DefundCBC TrudeauMustGo

Companies are crap these days because they don’t focus on customer satisfaction. Solving problems around that. The last company I worked for focussed on cutting employees by automating all processes, laying off chunks of staff every quarter. Gift to competitors.

Welcome to China… Trudeaus favourite country😡

Very Very Strongly Opposed to this Law and it should be challenged in the Court

Doesn't this raise issues with both the Privacy Commissioner PrivacyPrivee and the Information Commissioner OIC_CI_Canada ?

Your computer tracks you, your phone tracks you, if you have work pin it can track where and on what equipment you log into, etc. All equipment at work belongs to employer. Do not use for personal matters.

Canada has officially arrived in 1984

This is actually a good thing. If an employer has or will be tracking their employees at least now they have to come clean about it.

Shouldn't the headline be 'the provincial government is forcing your boss to track you' 🤷

Unacceptable

Meanwhile 'Demanding employees turn on their webcams is a human rights violation, Dutch Court rules.'

Trudeau is all in with this deterioration of our rights. It sure feels like Russia here much too often.

Come on boss! You can aim it while I pee...

Anyone working from home who chooses not to go to the office should have their productivity tracked, don’t like it go to the office

The MSM failed the Canadian people. Start reporting the truth!

We need only to track federal employees. They seem to have the most lax system. 😂

Most of you handed over your bodily autonomy to govt & your employer taking multiple experimental jabs (that don’t even stop infection/transmission) because they said so. Why would you think you have any right to privacy now lol.

Maybe employers should have everyone come back to the office if they think their employees are slacking off.

If these companies want to track their at home workers they better be paying for a seperate computer system and internet connection.

Just drop down to the bios disable the audio processor and unplug your headset when not in use. Cover cameras with black tape or disable them. It’s either companies deal with it or they find themselves new employees and that’s not exactly the easiest thing to do these days.

Are you correct in saying required - perhaps the legislation permits rather than requires monitoring but requires notification to emplowees

Slackers 'working' from home better watch out!

Why would this be a requirement
