U.S. Supreme Court says an Orthodox Jewish university in New York is required for now to officially recognize an LGBTQ student group in a rare legal defeat for religious rights.

Spencer Platt / Getty Images fileThe Supreme Court said Wednesday that an Orthodox Jewish university in New York is required for now to officially recognize an LGBTQ student group in a rare legal defeat for religious rights.

Four of the court's six conservative justices dissented, saying the court should have intervened immediately. Yeshiva, which describes itself in court papers as “a deeply religious Jewish university,” has said officials concluded after consulting with Jewish religious scholars that an official LGBTQ club would be inconsistent with its religious values. The university, which was founded in 1897 for religious purposes, says it maintains that character even as it has expanded its educational scope to include secular programs.

Yeah, y'all ain't special. You gotta tolerate this cancer too

I guess for the Supreme Court to not turn this country into a theocracy, we just need Jews doing things Christians do all the time and get away with.

Love how calls this “defeat for religious rights,” instead of “win for human rights.”

If it’s not a state school and is a private school then 👎 they have the right to say no. If they get state funding then yes they do.

Pretty sure that’s forbidden in Judaism!

Good

If it had been a private christian college it would have gotten the stay immediatly. Private means they get to make the rules. Be they good or bad doesnt matter as its private.

Nope.

Wtf are y’all talking about. How is this a defeat? Allowing individuals to be who they are n practice their religious right is a win.

Just think they have to teach their students reading, writing, math, science in yeshiva schools and respect human rights on college. Interesting twist

Good

....

PaulaChertok “Religious rights” should never be a license to discriminate against marginalized groups. This kind of verdict needs to become the standard. Not the rare exception.

What 😔

Religious “rights”. Bollocks.

💉🌭 the end is near 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That will go over like fart in church

Note: religious rights only applies to Christians.

did something right for a change
