Mpumalanga police claim to have illegal mining under control

Illegal mine workers have been a menace in the province’s gold and coal mining towns. Towns, such as Sabie, Graskop, Pilgrim’s Rest and Barberton, draw illegal gold diggers while Highveld towns, such as Emalahleni, Ermelo and Secunda, are besieged as illegal mine workers search for coal.

On January 17, police arrested 17 illegal mine workers in Emalahleni and confiscated two tractor-loader backhoes, three front-end loaders, a bulldozer, two coal screeners, a generator, six vehicles, including trucks and bakkies, a roller and trailer and a water tanker. According to the Minerals Council SA, illegal mining activities on operating mines conservatively cost the economy over R7 billion every year, including non-payment of taxes and royalties.

What about the handlers, obviously corrupt police officers. This problem is not going away. They are only the pawns. They will be replaced very quickly

🤣🤣🤣 SAPS believe the situation is under control? Really? Then they know nothing. 34 going to court, oh goody. Explain to the clever SAPS that say it is under control. Go down these shafts, believe me there is a hell of a lot still down there. They already got the warning

Hopes so

Yeah well. It means they regulate the operations neh?
