According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate , the accused went to pick up the teenager for an interview after she opened a case of assault against her boyfriend.

"On the way to the police station, the suspect made some sexual advances to the victim, which she rejected," IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping said. However, once at the police station, instead of taking her statement, the detective allegedly raped the girl. News24 previously reported that after the accused took the victim to his office, he started kissing her, before allegedly raping her."It is alleged the victim cried and, while the suspect was raping her, she bit the suspect on his left shoulder, she picked up a bottle and hit the suspect on his head until the bottle broke," IPID said at the time.

It was further alleged that the teen then took a piece of the broken bottle and stabbed the detective in his shoulder. The detective has since resigned from the police. In times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust.
